I was born on the Fourth of July in San Francisco, 1959. I grew
up with a background in classical music beginning with my
father, who sang in the San Francisco Opera and at the
Bracebridge Dinner at the Ahwanee Hotel in Yosemite at
Christmas, after having moved to Marinwood. That was the
start of my performing career, my older brother and sister and I
playing village waifs in the production with my father singing in
the chorus.
I started playing piano while living in San Diego at the age of 8
and had 6 years of classical training on the instrument before
falling in love with the bass guitar. My brain has been wired to
the bass clef ever since.
In high school I played in four or five different bands including
several with David Bryson, who went on to be the co-founder
and rhythm guitarist of The Counting Crows.
After high school I had the opportunity to play on occasion with
several members of Starship – Keyboardist Phil Bennett and
the late great guitarist Erik Torgeson.
Prior to joining the Six String Band, I played for 16 years in the
Contra Costa club scene with Doctor’s Orders, and am currently
working on my own project, as well as setting large amounts of
air in motion for the Kat Downs Band.
I am a Communications Technician with AT&T during the
daylight, have a cat, a dog and no kids that I know of.
